Full Contact & Strategy practices focus on RCR's core starts and mid-jam strategies combined with the reinforcement of skills and drills necessary for skaters to feel bout and/or home team ready. 

Types of strategies include plugging, advanced tripods, coordinated offense, threading offense, pack definition, and star passes.

Types of skills covered will be multiple styles of tracking, using opposing players as our own, one on one blocking, two-on-one blocking, and advanced stops. There will also be a focus on jammer techniques in pushing, juking, baiting, plugging, tracking and pack entry. Through all of this, we will also discuss proper engagement areas, penalties, and other pack safety fundamentals.

Get ready to roll with the coolest crew in town because the Skatemobile is hitting the streets with Secret Roller Disco on some Thursday day nights to join the party—and we want YOU to be part of the fun!

Join us as we team up to share the joy of skating with the city. They'll bring the party & we'll bring the skates!  

And here's the best part: while you're lending a hand, you should have plenty of opportunities to strap on your skates and glide under the disco lights yourself! It's like being part of the ultimate roller party while making a difference in our community.

The Skatemobile is hitting the road for some special events, and guess what? We need your help!

It'll be a day of fun as you snap amazing photos and videos of the action, excitement, and smiles; help spread the word by creating engaging content for Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook; highlight our incredible community partners and sponsors; and play a key role in raising awareness of the Skatemobile and its positive impact.

Hometown Throwdown 2025 will showcase some of the world’s best roller derby, and your skills can help keep our skaters safe and in the game. Volunteer Safety Staff play a vital role by responding to medical situations to ensure the well-being of skaters, event staff, and spectators.

What You’ll Be Doing:
Volunteer Safety Staff will:

Provide medical assistance to skaters, event staff, and spectators as needed.

Act as the first responder to injuries on the track

Stay vigilant for signs of potential concussions or other injuries.

Assist with administering CPR, Basic Life Support (BLS), or other emergency measures in life-threatening situations.

Who We’re Looking For:
We’re seeking individuals with certifications and experience in:

Certified First Responders (CFRs), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), or Paramedics.

Physicians specializing in sports medicine, orthopedics, or emergency medicine.

Athletic trainers with current CPR training.

Licensed Practical or Registered Nurses with CPR certification and experience in sports medicine, orthopedics, or emergency medicine.

Nurse Practitioners or Physician's Assistants with relevant expertise and CPR certification.

Requirements:

Certifications must be current.

What You’ll Do:

Before the Game:

Sweep the track to ensure it’s clean and safe.

Inspect the tape and repair any imperfections to keep it game-ready.

During the Game:

Stay alert and ready to spring into action! When officials signal for tape repairs, you’ll swoop in to fix things up like a track ninja.

Halftime:

Shine again by sweeping and rechecking the tape to ensure everything is in top-notch condition for the second half.

After the Game:

Give the track a final sweep and tape check.

After the last game of the day, give the track a light mop to get it ready for the next day.

Age range: Petals (7-12)

Skills worked on Yellow Level: plow (stop immediately with contact), transitions (both sides), backward crossovers, tracking (with a partner), light-medium contact skills (bumps, driving contact), tripod skills (brace, butts, light pushing). This is not a comprehensive list of skills worked on at practice.

Skills & Drills practices are non-contact practices.

These practices will focus on developing foundational skating and footwork skills and improving agility, balance, and acceleration on skates. Modifications will be given as much as possible so that skaters can challenge themselves to the appropriate level.

Types of skills covered in these practices may include (but are not limited to) stops, transitions, forwards and backward crossovers, lateral movement and tracking, hops and jumps, toe stop stability, using edges, weaving, and j-turns. Although there will be no forceful contact practiced, skaters may practice positional blocking or skating in close proximity

Skill Level: All Skill Levels

Intro to Derby and Derby 101 is how new adult skaters join RCR. 

The first four weeks comprise Intro Series skaters (brand new) and Derby 101 repeaters from the previous session. After four weeks, the Intro Series skaters are invited to an orientation to join the league. Then the whole group will skate together until the end of the Derby 101 session (8-9 weeks). 

Skills covered: Balance, Striding, T-Stop, Plow Stop, Crossovers, Transitions, Backward Skating, and Lateral Movement.

Skill Level: R

Sundays: 8am - 10am through 2023

Saturdays: 8am - 10am starting Jan 2024

The world's best derby requires the world's best referees.  Whether you are a seasoned official or new to derby altogether, this practice is for anyone ages 12+ who wants to contribute to helping RCR grow.

In general, officials practices feature a combination of topics and activities for both skating and non-skating officials, including:

* Note: WFTDA insurance is mandatory for all adult skating officials (18+), JRDA insurance is mandatory for all juniors skating officials (12-17).

Help support the league and outfit fans with awesome new looks by selling merch! This can be a great entry level role and volunteers get one of the best seats in the house to watch the game!

People in this role should be friendly, love talking to strangers, and able to help increase sales.

Ushers are so important to game days! 

Before the game starts, you'll be moving around and helping get fans into seats but once the game starts, we'll get you posted up in turn 1 or turn 4 to help check for wristbands/stamps for re-entry, making sure people aren't taking alcohol out of the building, and helping to keep the walkways clear during jams. ​We'll make sure you have clear views of the action o nthe track!

Capture the Action – Social Media Volunteer for Bouts at the Hangar

We host over 80 bouts at the hangar, and we need your help to bring the excitement to fans everywhere! As a social media volunteer, you’ll be in the middle of the action, capturing and sharing memorable moments with our followers.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Taking photos of the event based on specific guidelines provided.

Posting updates, highlights, and engaging content to social media.

Tagging sponsors, teams, and relevant accounts to maximize visibility.

What We Provide:

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE: 

Discover Derby Days are essential to introducing Roller Derby to kids in our community.

We'll have people off skates, talking to the participants and their parents about what they can expect from derby, answering questions, and giving them a glimpse into our community.

We'll also have juniors on skates helping the group of skaters they are assigned to with gearing up, getting on the track, and demoing any skills the coaches need help with.

Rent N Roll is meant to be "self serve" where skaters pull their gear, and put it back where they found it.

With so many people using it, league wide, there is a need for one or two people who are in the hangar on a weekly basis to help ensure the equipment is being maintained and the gear is put away in a way that it can be found again the next time.

Ideally this would be lead by one or two people who have been trained by the Rent N Roll Manager, but is open to anyone else who may wish to volunteer while in the hangar.

Rose City Rollers seeks a highly motivated assistant to work alongside our Development Manager in strengthening and growing our revenue streams. The position will be part-time or full-time and is unpaid, with a minimum commitment of 10 hours/week. It is a remote position that requires access to a computer and internet.

This position spans a range of responsibilities supporting the Development Manager and Committee including managing and cultivating donor relationships, data management, prospecting, grant research/writing/reporting, and general fundraising efforts.

The ideal candidate will share the core values of Rose City Rollers and be passionate about moving our mission forward. 

We want this position to be exciting and beneficial! While it will be grant-oriented, it will also include a combination of the following tasks that are best suited to the prospective assistant's skills and interests:

RCR is is need of additional support filling merch shipments, this volunteer role would work alongside Sheena, Jen, and the Merch team while supporting the shipment process. 

Are you helping with Data Entry, Barcoding, or writing descriptions of merch? This is the opportunity for you! 

Data Entry: We sometimes need help getting new Merch items into the store. This generally takes a couple of hours a couple of times a year. 

Barcoding: We are adding barcodes to all of our merch items to make merch sales easier! This can be done anytime you ar at the hangar. 

Merch Description Writing: As we bring in new merch, we need someone to help write a fun blurb about each new item that includes what the item is, what the item is made of, and any dimensions for non-clothing items.

Development at RCR makes sure we have the strong community relationships and monetary support we need to keep you rolling year after year.

Development runs a broad range of revenue building projects, so there are a lot of opportunities for sharing your expertise, learning, honing skills, and supporting RCR! We research and write grants, manage donor databases and communications using Little Green Light, cultivate sponsors, craft fundraising appeals and events, and build corporate partnerships. 

While most of our work is behind the scenes, the results are often very visible! Funding for things like our Skatemobile free afterschool youth programs, the Rent 'n' Roll Gear Lending Library, our coach training curriculum, and our robust youth and adult scholarship programs all came from or are sustained by development efforts!

There are so many opportunities for real-life, professional skill-building with RCR's Development branch. Best of all, most of these opportunities can be accessed from the comfort of your own home!

Cultivate supplemental social media content to engage, fans, volunteers, skaters, and donors around the world.  

Our Accountability and Conduct Committee underwent a giant overhaul and is changing its focus to restorative justice and community healing. 

The AC Facilitators are League Members that undergo training to provide conversation facilitation for parties that are working through conflict. 

Ticket Loaders and Timeline Builders are part of the Games Production Team that helps the Event Manager get things organized before the first fan walks in the door.

Ticket Loaders:
We have switched over to a new ticketing service and need someone to help enter the tickets so they can be put on sale. This is a "no-pants gig" so you can do it from home.

*Position will have a walk through with the Event Manager 

Our events list will be provided and you will duplicate previous events and edit in the new information (date, time, teams that are playing). After ensuring that all of the information is correct, that the ebay listing for the Best Seats are included, make sure the event is saved. 

The Event Manager will add in any promo codes and then push them to social media.

Timeline Builders:
Our Timeline builders help put a time to the sequence of events that make up a roller derby game. 

Everything that happens from the moment the Events Manager arrives until the door closes after teardown is part of a carefully crafted timeline. Our Events Manager has already crafted the formulas, we just need help applying them to the different games (single headers vs double header or Saturday night vs Sunday matinee). 

OUr Events Manager will walk you through the process and give you all the tools you need to be successful.

Projects with the Events Manager can be virtual or in person, and for varying lengths.
